Admissions Process

During this private, one-to-one call, we will answer your questions, discuss your work experience and career path so far as well as your motivation to pursue an Executive MBA. We will find out how the program can meet your personal or professional goals and expectations. If you send us your CV or share your LinkedIn profile prior to our call, we are able to determine your eligibility and advise you on the next steps.

After we have personally discussed your eligibility for the Kellogg-WHU Executive MBA Program, qualified candidates will be invited to submit their full application. Please complete and submit the following:

  • Completed Application Form. Download the form here.
  • Most recent CV / résumé
  • Two Letters of Recommendation from peers and/or supervisors who know you well — preferably one from your current organization and one from a customer, supplier or previous employer. Recommenders should submit their letters via email directly to our EMBA office. Download the form here.
  • Copies of degree certificates and transcripts from all universities you attended. The admission of applicants without a degree from a recognized university or approved institution are underlying special admission requirements.
  • Proof of proficiency in English (TOEFL, IELTS) if applicable
  • The €200 application fee, payable prior to the interviews (see details in Application Form)
  • All documents should be in English or translated into English and send to emba@whu.edu

Submit application documents via email 

Upon review of your application, a personal interview with senior admissions staff or faculty will be scheduled. These interviews are mandatory and take place on the WHU campus in Vallendar or Düsseldorf, depending on the interviewers‘ availability. During the interviews we will especially look at your work experience, managerial related work experience and current role and responsibilities. During your visit we recommend to participate in a tour around campus and its facilities.

Within two weeks of your interview, our Admissions Board will inform you via email about their decision. The committee takes a holistic look at each candidate, evaluating experience and expertise, academic success, management and leadership achievements as well as potential.
In some cases, an additional interview with Kellogg-WHU EMBA alumni will be required. This interview will be personal or via skype.
If you’ve been admitted to our program, we strongly suggest informing us regarding your intentions to accept this offer as soon as possible, at the latest prior to the next admissions round.

Upon your acceptance and receipt of all required application documents, we will send out your Kellogg-WHU EMBA study contract. As soon as we receive a signed copy we can start your enrollment process. Our Program Managers who will be your first point of contact throughout your studies will contact you and guide you through the preparations for your first module.

Tuition Fees

The tuition fee for the Kellogg-WHU Executive MBA Program (2019 - 2021) is €89,000.
This fee includes teaching fees for the entire duration of the program, all books and course materials, all meals during class days, accommodation during all required global electives and Global Network Weeks at the Kellogg School of Management, use of school facilities and all leadership development workshops and required business coaching sessions.

Financing Options

Pursuing the Kellogg-WHU Executive MBA is a substantial investment, not only in terms of time and energy, but also financially. We’re committed to helping you explore and evaluate the different financing options to make this investment in your future.

All accepted EMBA students have the opportunity to apply for the WHU Brain Capital funding option, which finances up to 100% of EMBA tuition fees. In return, EMBA students must make a commitment to reimburse the loan in its entirety over a certain period of time depending on each individual’s income level following graduation.

Scholarships

The WHU Scholarship Fund has put resources aside to help selected Executive MBA participants finance a portion of their Kellogg-WHU Executive MBA Program tuition costs. Scholarships are awarded in several areas. They involve various competitive selection criteria and are limited in number.

  • Candidates who fit the basic selection criteria for each scholarship can apply for the scholarships
  • All self-funded candidates or candidates who are partially sponsored to a maximum of 30%
  • Candidates will be required to have successfully completed the application process for the Kellogg-WHU Executive MBA Program
  • You can apply for up to two scholarships

Scholarship applications will be assessed on:

  • the quality of the scholarship essays and the degree to which they meet the eligibility criteria
  • the academic and professional achievements of the candidate
  • the expected contribution to the class and program
  • the quality of your admissions interview
  • your funding situation, to be explained in a financial budget essay

Please review the required application materials for each scholarship carefully and submit

  • a financial budget essay explaining where you have a gap in financing the tuition or difficulties in finding other financing options

Scholarships are awarded on an ongoing basis to candidates who have successfully completed the Kellogg-WHU Executive MBA admissions process. As awards are limited, we strongly encourage early applications. Applications will be reviewed within 4 weeks. The final scholarship deadline is July 31st, 2019.

WHU is highly committed to society and the social involvement of its students, staff, and faculty. This scholarship aims to foster the application of business management knowledge in the non-profit and social entrepreneurship sectors.

We look for creative and innovative candidates from non-profit /for-profit organizations or start-up ventures (not solely focused on maximizing profits for external shareholders) who through their projects and initiatives aim to create value and develop solutions addressing social or environmental needs.


Required application materials: (max 2 pages in total)

  • Statement of purpose demonstrating motivation for applying for this scholarship. Please elaborate on major professional and personal accomplishments and the social impact they had on your organization or the environment. (max. 2 pages)  
  • a financial budget essay, explaining your current financial situation and the financial support provided by third parties like your company, or other funding sources.

Award: up to 20% of the tuition

Eligibility:

WHU is highly committed to support the economic development of emerging market countries. This scholarship aims to help outstanding candidates from emerging markets.

Scholarship recipients will be expected to promote business development or serve the community in their respective country after successful completion of the program.

Required application materials: (max 2 pages in total)

  • Statement of purpose demonstrating motivation for applying for this scholarship and elaborating on major professional and personal accomplishments (max. 2 pages)  
  • a financial budget essay, explaining your current financial situation and the financial support provided by third parties like your company, or other funding sources.

Award: up to 20% of the tuition

Eligibility:

The entrepreneurial spirit has been in WHU’s DNA since its inception and transpires through the students it educates. With a sole focus on entrepreneurship, this scholarship aims to support applicants who have either founded their own start-up or have a vision in the pipeline for a future start-up, addressing innovative and sustainable solutions.

We look for talented executives who aim to create value and develop solutions, which have the potential to make a big social and innovative impact.

Required application materials: (max 2 pages in total)

  • Statement of purpose demonstrating motivation for applying for this scholarship and elaborating on your current business or new business idea. How will your participation in the Kellogg-WHU EMBA Program influence your efforts and business. 
  • a financial budget essay, explaining your current financial situation and the financial support provided by third parties like your company, or other funding sources.

Award: up to 20% of the tuition

Eligibility:

The MBA for Women Foundation is awarding this scholarship to exceptional women business leaders who

  • have a minimum of 10 years of work experience with extensive leadership experience in a global environment
  • have a strong professional career track record and are currently in an executive role

Required application materials: (max 2 pages in total)

  • CV
  • Statement of purpose answering the following questions: "Why are you a good candidate for the MBA for Women Foundation Scholarship?" and "How will you contribute to the richness of the academic experience of the program and strengthen the Kellogg-WHU brand?"

Award: € 15.000

This scholarship gives preference to students who did not follow a traditional path to graduate studies and for whom the award could be maximally transformative. (Non-traditional backgrounds)

This scholarship is awarded people who add extraordinary value to the EMBA class

  • according to cultural, academic and work background
  • who help advancing the interests of underrepresented populations and groups

  • Statement of purpose demonstrating motivation for applying for this scholarship and how you are planning to further increase diversity or broaden the awareness of this particular underrepresented population or group.(max. 2 pages)
  • a financial budget essay, explaining your current financial situation and the financial support provided by third parties like your company, or other funding sources.

Award: up to 20% tuition

Eligibility:

Women in business with a strong professional career track record and significant achievements in their professional lives.

Required application materials:(max 2 pages in total)

  • a scholarship essay stating your purpose and motivation to apply for this scholarship. Please  elaborate on why you think a higher percentage of women in leading positions would have an impact on companies or even on society by outlining your opinion and giving supporting arguments.
