WHU’s Chair of Digital Marketing Receives Best Paper Award

Professor Christian Schlereth’s study on “workplace choice determinants” wins award

Professor Christian Schlereth, Chairholder at the Chair of Digital Marketing of WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management, has been honored at this year’s Transdisciplinary Workplace Research (TWR) Conference, hosted at the Edinburgh Napier University, with the Best Paper Award. The honor also goes to his co-authors Kyra Voll, Martin Höcker, Yassien Bachtal, and Professor Andreas Pfnür of the Technical University of Darmstadt for their collaboration on “Identification of employee workplace choice determinants – A Best-Worst Scaling Study”. “We’re excited about receiving this recognition from the TWR network. This award underscores the relevance of our research to employees and their well-being, as well as for the further development of workplaces as a whole,” noted Professor Schlereth.

The research team examined which criteria could be decisive for job seekers when engaging with companies that have hybrid working environments. They found that flexible working hours and locations, as well as work-life balance and the ability to concentrate on their tasks as the most important criteria. This study makes use of the best-worst scaling method through Professor Schlereth’s DISE platform. This preference measurement method is used to evaluate the importance or preference of different properties or options and used to gain clearer insights into consumer preferences, attitudes, and/or decision-making behaviors.

The TWR network is a diverse group of scientists and professionals who share the common goal of contributing to the design and management of workplaces where people can reach their full potential. In doing so, they place high emphasis on the worker’s mental and physical health.
