WHU Student Club Raises 4,000€ for Good Causes

At the end of every year, music lovers and others with a big heart flock to the Marienburg Chapel at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management to raise money for a good cause. For this year’s benefits concert, held on November 26, WHU Students Help e.V. (WHUSH) worked both with their classmates as well as the young performers from a local dance school, thereby giving the program a whole new dimension. And indeed, they were successful in their efforts: The house was packed.

With every seat filled, WHUSH was able to raise 3,000€ just from that one performance alone—nearly quadrupling proceeds over last year’s concert. Tickets were sold at the door, though not for a set price. Rather, concertgoers were asked to pay through donation. The money raised is to help Acción Misericordia, an orphanage run by the Fundación Colombo Alemana in Bogotá, Colombia currently offering housing and care for 20 young people between the ages of 9 and 18. 

WHU Students Helps e. V. is working in close collaboration with the orphanage’s founder and manager, who regularly gives updates on the project’s progress and setbacks. The staff on the ground works to give these young people, all of whom come from difficult family situations, both a home and a way to secure a brighter future.

WHUSH was also able to collect an additional 1,000€ through their presence at this year’s Christmas market on the Burgplatz. Together with the WHU Lions Club, WHUSH will donate these funds to the Fly & Help Foundation, which builds schools in developing nations.

Since the fall of 2004, WHUSH has held fast its long-term goal of advancing social engagement within the student body at WHU and offering consistent assistance where it is needed most. The club currently has around 800 members and dedicates itself to both local and international philanthropic projects.
