From the EMBA Class of 2022: Witold Mierzejewski

A Global Elective Experience in Miami

After two years, Kellogg-WHU students were finally able to experience the international modules for the first time, often the highlight of their EMBA journeys. Each partner school within the Kellogg Global network offers modules on various topics for all cohorts part of this unique and talented network. Each hosts students from the seven different campuses during this module, with an opportunity to gain new insights and create new connections.

Class of 2022 student Witold Mierzejewski, Director Engineering Operations Global at Kautex Textron, decided on the module at the Kellogg campus in Miami and shared his experience with us.

"It was cautious yet solid optimism that accompanied me over the weeks, interrupted by several COVID-19 infections among friends and co-workers before I finally made it to the plane to Miami. But finally, I made it. I was on a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt, Germany, to Florida, USA, to join my Global Elective EMBA module at the Kellogg Miami Campus.

Mornings began with a course on Creating and Managing Strategic Alliances with Professor Edward J. Zajac. I wondered how he could summon up so many real-life examples and cases? No matter how difficult the questions were, a good example was always ready to be shared and explained.

The afternoons belonged to Professor Sergio Rebelo. They really belonged to him as he had every student's full, dedicated attention in the lecture hall. He explained complex details of the world economy in such a simple way (it sounded and looked simple, but it wasn't). He did this by using historical facts, uniquely connecting them, piecing together supposedly unrelated data until it clearly made sense. Presenting current data and speaking about recent technology, then tying it all back to historical facts. Finally, they are flavored with personal stories, even crowned with a Portuguese wine tasting evening, accompanied by stories. I sincerely want to experience this again in the future as a proud alum, and again, and again…

It was fun to connect with so many other students from different cohorts worldwide. To experience the diversity, hear about their stories, and have a good time together in beautiful, sunny Miami. It added another dimension on top of a typical module experience. Luckily, I will meet many of them during the following modules, and we will stay connected.

I am glad that it wasn't the last Global Elective Module. I'm very fond of this fact, because typically for me: I got a taste for more!"
