Adel has has been awarded the Turkish Industrial Excellence Award by Sabancı Business School of Sabancı University for its strategic realignment to serve OEM markets in the face of a stagnant local market that shows indications of moving towards more price-sensitive purchase behaviors and export markets, which are served by extremely low-cost producers from Far East Asia.

This recognition celebrates Adel’s efforts to increase its strength in R&D to develop products that can be differentiated in the local and export markets by their sustainability and safety characteristics. Their flexibility to adopt the appropriate project management process that each project requires (e.g., agile project management for internally initiated projects and stage-gate management for external OEM clients) has been critical in supporting the move towards OEM markets.

Some key operational strengths have clearly been instrumental in laying the foundation for the above-mentioned strategic shift: high employee satisfaction and participation in both strategic planning and continuous improvement practices, production flexibility with respect to both product variety and production volume, which is supported by employee upskilling and multi-skilling initiatives and their process expertise in co-designing their machines in collaboration with machine and equipment suppliers, and a well-managed in-bound supply chain that strikes a good balance between low cost and flexibility. They emphasize their track record in on-time, in-full order fulfillment, as a key performance indicator, which is in line with their high customer service goals.

The main reasons for the award were: i) openness to change, ii) effective use of R&D to enable the strategic shift towards OEM markets, iii) high employee satisfaction and participation, iv) a flexible production system supported by  process development expertise, and v) innovations for the sustainability of products and processes, such as upcycling of production waste.
