Accessibility Statement of WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management, Burgplatz 2, 56179 Vallendar – hereinafter referred to as “WHU” –

This accessibility statement applies to the website https://www.whu.edu/de/, including its subdomains, in particular https://application-center.whu.edu/.


1. General description of the service 

The WHU website provides information about its Bachelor’s, Master’s, MBA, doctoral and executive education programs. The website offers information on admission requirements, program details, research, university-related services, events, as well as general information about WHU.

The website also provides access to WHU’s online application portal https://application-center.whu.edu/ for the above-mentioned programs, through which applications can be submitted.

In addition, the WHU website offers the use of contact and inquiry forms, registration for online information events, and the possibility to request informational materials.


2. Description of the applicable requirements

The accessibility requirements arise from Section 3 of the German Act on Strengthening Accessibility (Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz, “BFSG”) and the Ordinance to the Act on Strengthening Accessibility (“BFSGV”), which was issued pursuant to Section 3 (2) BFSG. The specific requirements for accessible services in electronic commerce are set out in particular in Sections 12, 13, and 19 of the BFSGV.


3. Description of how the service meets the applicable accessibility requirements

WHU is committed to making the services offered on its website in electronic commerce accessible in accordance with the provisions of the Act on Strengthening Accessibility and the corresponding ordinance, and to ensuring barrier-free access.

WHU aligns the services offered on its website in electronic commerce with the requirements of the harmonised European standard EN 301 549 in its respective current version and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Levels A and AA, in order to make them accessible to all people.

Measures implemented to date include in particular:

  • Adaptation of existing modules, in particular through optimisation of HTML structures, language attributes, alternative texts and contrasts.
  • Improvement of colour and contrast design in various modules and page elements.
  • Addition of missing accessible names for headings, buttons, forms, navigation elements and embedded content.
  • Review and correction of incorrect ARIA attributes to improve semantic accessibility.
  • Optimisation of keyboard accessibility for individual modules and scrollable areas.
  • Standardisation and improvement of the formatting of links and hyperlinks to enhance recognisability and usability.
  • Review and adjustment of linguistic and structural content that may cause issues for assistive technologies.
  • Improvement of editorial processes, including guidelines for alternative texts, image handling, language versions and structured content.
  • Revision of outdated content and media-related elements based on identified accessibility barriers.
  • Continuous further development of the website as part of technical updates.

4. Responsible market surveillance authority

The responsible market surveillance authority is the Market Surveillance Authority of the Federal States for the Accessibility of Products and Services (“MLBF”), Magdeburg, Saxony-Anhalt.
